Background: Briefly explain what your organization does, this provides information to the background to the project. Useful information includes: A brief history of the company, size - the number of employees, key services, major achievements
Objectives: Why do you need a website? What outcomes do you want to achieve? Are they measurable?
Are there problems with an existing site? If so, what are the business drivers for the change?
Define at least one goal that the website should help you achieve.
Key Audiences: Identify the key audiences that you need to appeal to in order to reach your objectives. These might be: Prospective or existing customers or clients, members of the press, prospective employees.
What are you trying to persuade them to do? Buy something? Sign up for something? Inquire about something?
What is the priority of these audiences. This will help when it comes to designing the layout and navigation of the website.
Technical specifications: What is the purpose of the website?: Brochure like site, ecommerce, collect information, have members/Client-only section, include social media pages...
Usability: Do you have accessibility requirements? Perhaps your website will be used mainly on smart phones, tablets, or by the elderly.
Security: Do you need to be PCI compliant?
Legal: Are there any compliance requirements that the website must adhere to? Will your customers need to accept terms & conditions?
Website Preferences: For the design process, it's handy to have a list of websites you like and don't like to help guide the process. Please provide the URLs.
Domain Name: What domain name will be used for the website? Do you own it?
Hosting: Do you have a website hosting account that you want to use. If so, what is the name of the hosting account?
Who are your competitors? Provide the company name and link to their website.
What keywords would searchers use to find your website?
Budget: Startup cost budget? Ongoing annual/monthly budget?
Timeline: What is your target launch date?
When can the project start?
Process: Do you have a response deadline?
Who will be the point of contact for the project?
What days of the week and hours are you available?
How soon can decisions be made? Is there an approval process?
